Founder & CEO, Startup México

Marcus is a recognized serial entrepreneur and angel investor with two decades creating, operating, investing and advising startups both in Mexico and in the United States and Latin America.

 

He currently leads Startup México, the most ambitious program for the promotion of entrepreneurship

and innovation in Mexico.

 

He is a managing partner of the Dux Capital seed fund that invests in some of these ventures, directs the Angel Labs program in Latin America and directs the Global Entrepreneurship Network program representing Mexico.

 

Participate as a "shark" in the Prime Time of the Mexican television program Shark Tank.

 

Previously, he founded and directed Wayra México, Telefónica's startup accelerator, mainly focused on Internet and Communications businesses.

 

He has been the founder and CEO of several companies in the past, including Latin American, Telecom, Mexico.com, Simitel, Peerant, Innovamédica and Abdeo Medical, among others.

 

Academically, he is a visiting professor of entrepreneurship and innovation at IPADE and was the coordinator of the Master of Internet Business at ISDI since its foundation, he is professor of Innovation at the Disruptive Business Academy (DBA).

 

He founded the Entrepreneur Center of the CENTRO de Diseño y Televisión university, he is regularly invited to give talks to other academic institutions such as Anáhuac, Ibero, TEC, UVM, UNAM, UAM, Politécnico, among others.

 

He has won several entrepreneurship and innovation awards, including the Endeavor Dedication Award in 2003 (first edition) and the Intel Technology Award in 2004 with Simitel and in 2008 with Innovamédica.

 

He was a member of the board of the Mexico-US Entrepreneurship and Innovation Council (MUSEIC) and participated in the Mexico-France Council for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (COMFEI).

 

In addition, he is a member of the Intersectoral Innovation Council and president of the Gifted Citizen event in Ciudad de las Ideas.

 

Marcus remains committed to fostering entrepreneurship, competitiveness, and innovation in Mexico, as an academic, investor, advisor, and mentor in more than 50 companies.

 

He studied a BS in Computer Science at ITESM and a BA in Communications at the University of Pennsylvania.

In this exclusive masterclass you will get to know from the hand of this investment expert a bit of the history of venture capital and about the difficulties of undertaking; you will learn how to differentiate a company from a startup and also business angels from investment funds, as well as discover how to create and operate an investment fund and how to evaluate an investment prospect. And at the end of the session, you will participate in a group simulation to put into practice all the knowledge acquired with this great “shark”.
